Chronic
Fatigue
A 56-year-old man presented complaining of chronic fatigue. Physical
examination was normal except for some pallor of the nail beds. History
elicited complaints of a sharp, burning epigastric pain after eating
which was relieved by fasting. Some relief was obtained by OTC antacids.
Lab studies showed a hypochromic, microcytic anemia. Iron therapy was
begun. Barium swallow studies showed a defect in the mucosa of the
duodenum. Below is an image of duodenum from a similar case.
